Julius joined Equality Works in 2009, bringing more than 15 years of experience in the United States working with clients to foster inclusive and effective organisations. With a background as a lawyer in employment and equal opportunity law, along with experience as a mediator working with organisational conflicts, Julius has worked extensively with public sector organisations undergoing change processes around equality and diversity. He has particular interest and expertise in facilitating difficult group processes and conversations around organisational change.
Before joining Equality Works, Julius was an independent consultant and an internal organisational consultant with the University of Minnesota’s Office of Human Resources. As an independent consultant, he worked primarily with public sector organisations in the Midwest, California and North Carolina. One of his recent clients is the Minnesota Department of Health, the primary agency responsible for protecting, maintaining and improving the health of all Minnesotans. For the past two years, he worked with key leadership to assess, develop and implement a change process that integrates equality, diversity and intercultural competency in the organisational culture.
In his role as an organisational development consultant for the University of Minnesota, he provided expertise and system-wide leadership for the university in organisational change, conflict management, diversity management, team development and intercultural leadership. Prior to this, he held leadership roles in equality and diversity offices with primary system responsibilities for advocacy, policy development, discrimination investigation and resolution, and training and education. In these roles, he developed and monitored multi-year diversity and affirmative action (positive action) plans, along with recruitment, selection and retention programmes. This involved working effectively with all levels of organisations to insure that equality and diversity are integrated into day-to-day workplace activities.
Clients and training participants consistently highlight Julius’ ability to facilitate self-reflection, authentic dialogue and skill building with humour and energy. His style has allowed individuals and organisations to develop a deep understanding of the value and challenges of diversity in a safe learning environment, while developing concrete skills for building inclusive and effective organisations.
