The Single Equality Bill - A Successful Seminar

In response to client interest, Equality Works organised a half-day seminar on the implications of the Single Equality Bill.  The event took place on 12th June 2009 and was hosted at the Royal Society of Arts in central London.

The event was introduced by our Chief Executive, Jane Farrell, who spoke about the journey of equalities in Britain and the path leading to the development of the Bill.  This was followed by presentations from Senior Consultants, Natasha Landers and Dan Robertson.

Our overview of the Bill covered:

  • Extension of public duties;
  • Age discrimination extended to goods and services;
  • Inclusion of transgender issues as another strand;
  • New Duty on social economic disadvantage;
  • Positive Action to open up opportunities;
  • Equal Pay;
  • Procurement;
  • Outlawing secrecy clauses;
  • Greater transparency; and
  • Pregnancy provisions.

The presentations also included the opportunities and challenges of the Bill, with particular relation to Human Resources, Services and Procurement/Commissioning.  The event concluded with lunch and networking.

We are planning further sessions later in the year so please let our Business Services Team know if you would like to attend or have suggestions for topics.
