We're delighted to welcome...

Equality Works are very pleased to introduce two new Senior Client Consultants who’ve joined us this year from very different roles in Sefton and Minnesota!

As Senior Client Consultant based in our Manchester Office, Ruth Austen-Vincent will be managing our relationships with a number of key clients and we are sure many new ones as we develop our work in the North West.

Ruth joined Equality Works early this year from Sefton Council on Merseyside where she was Assistant Director of Sefton Equalities Partnership. She brings a depth of experience to the role, having worked in Local Government and the Voluntary Sector throughout the North West, tackling issues such as poverty alleviation and homelessness.

Ruth was responsible for leading Sefton Council’s Equality and Diversity Strategy whose main aspects included:

  • Developing and implementing the Single Equality Scheme
  • Planning the scope and development of the Sefton Equalities Partnership
  • Involving key public and voluntary sector partners with the scheme (including local authority, health and housing partners).
Ruth’s responsibilities in this role included a number of specific projects:
  • Managing the ‘Race Equality in Mental Health Team’ in Sefton
  • Co-ordinating the work on ‘hate crime’ in Sefton
  • Delivering on the Community Cohesion Strategy.
She previously worked for Liverpool City Council as Manager of the Community Roots team. Here, Ruth was accountable for the development and operation of the Community Roots Project - an initiative of Kensington Regeneration - funded by the European Social Fund and New Deal for Communities.

Prior to that she managed the operation of the Liverpool Drug and Alcohol Action Team hosted by Liverpool Health Authority. This required delivery on the Home Office directives in relation to drugs and alcohol which was linked with local needs. In this role, Ruth supported the development of a service in HMP Liverpool together with the other Merseyside DAT’s.

She also led the commissioning of a significant local drug information campaign over Christmas and New Year for a two-year period. This involved the development and testing of various media strategies and overall evaluation of the campaign.

Julius Erolin has also joined us this year as Senior Client Consultant based in London and brings a very different experience and skill-set to the team. Julius brings a wealth of experience in equality and diversity work in the United States as well as the additional experience of a legal background.

Julius’ most recent experience has been with the University of Minnesota where he provided:

  • Expertise and system-wide leadership for the University in diversity and equity:
  • Advocacy, policy development and issue identification, education, discrimination consultation,
  • Investigation and resolution, community connections, and compliance.
Prior to his role at the University, he was Director of Equality and Opportunity at St Paul’s Public Housing Agency in Minnesota, where he developed and implemented a three-year affirmative action plan.

Additionally, Julius has worked as an independent consultant providing solutions, strategies and services to help individuals and organisations move from awareness to action in creating more inclusive and productive work and learning environments.

Services included organisational development, education and training, assessment and recruitment. His clients included higher educational institutions, public and private schools, government and non-profit agencies and corporations

As a facilitator, participants in post-training surveys consistently rate Julius’ approach as highly effective and his style as dynamic and engaging. Participants consistently express their appreciation for the humour and energy that he brings to the work.

We are delighted to have Ruth and Julius as part of the team and sure you will enjoy the opportunity of working with them.
