Equality Works is pleased to count a number of Central Government departments, government funded agencies and Regional Development Agencies amongst its clients. We have undertaken projects for the Department for Health and DEFRA, as well as the East Midlands Development Agency and the Northwest Regional Development Agency, amongst others.
Very often our clients in this area have complex structures and relationships with other organisations, and it is important that we recognise their underlying aim to be exemplars of best practice in everything they do.
Projects have included providing Equality Impact Assessment workshops, developing a series of resource guides for project developers to mainstream equality into projects funded by the commissioning client, and ensuring compliance with legal requirements within specific timescales.
Equality Works were commissioned to work with the NWDA to develop their Gender Equality Scheme to meet the legal deadline of 30 April 2007.
The scheme drew upon the Regional Economic Strategy (RES), Race Equality Scheme and Disability Equality Scheme. It also involved gathering evidence from a wide range of sources, including external reports and research, monitoring data and internal and external consultation.
Equality Works were commissioned to develop a series of resource guides for project developers to mainstream equality into emda - funded projects. The guides cover five different themes: skills, business support / enterprise, employment, tourism and regeneration. These guides are relevant to a range of professionals in local authorities and other public sector bodies.
Equality Works was commissioned to conduct an Equality Impact Assessment (EqIA) of the renewed Alcohol Harm Reduction Strategy for England (ASE) 2007.
EqIA is a legal requirement on public bodies as part of the public duties on Race, Gender and Disability. In line with Department of Health Guidelines and general good practice, this assessment also includes an analysis of the possible impacts on other equality strands – sexual orientation, religion or belief, age and socio-economic background/social class.
Equality Works is currently providing EqIA workshops to the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA). This training is taking place within the context of a wider implementation programme which has already included revision of EqIA guidance, initial training and a mainstreaming process. The EqIA workshops are aimed at staff who are responsible for policy changes, projects and programmes and include staff from Defra’s Executive Agencies as well as the core business.
The workshops are designed to enable participants to:
